What’s Going On? is a summary of my life as it currently is. It’s written on the 7th* of every month and is a summary of the previous month – so I’m writing this in July as a reflection of June. This month features: Hudson & Halls, Okja, Amelie, and moving house!
*I know I said the 7th and this is 4 days late, but I can explain.
WORKING ON HUDSON & HALLS LIVE!
The past two weeks I’ve been working on the Silo Theatre production of Hudson & Halls Live! as the Assistant Stage Manager. This is the second time the show has played in Auckland (first season was in 2015) and I’m so glad they brought it back as I didn’t get to see it last time it was here because it was sold out. The show stars Chris Parker as David Halls and Todd Emerson as Peter Hudson, along with Anya Tate-Manning as enthusiastic floor manager Ngaire Watkins (formerly played by Jackie van Beek in the original season.
Even though basically all I did for this show was the food prep and the dishes, it was still one of my favourite shows I’ve ever worked on. It’s such a fun show and I never got sick of watching it every night for 2 weeks. It’s going on tour real soon, so make sure you keep an eye out for it!
WATCHING THINGS ON NEON
I just got Neon recently and mainly so I could watch Big Little Lies, and a heads up, I absolutely loved it. I’ve also been watching Forensics which is a NZ show about true crimes and shows the measures a forensic team take to solve a crime. It’s truly incredible but also terrifying, especially since the last episode was about a girl who went missing whilst she was home alone and I was at home alone whilst watching the episode…
Things I’ll be watching next: Fargo seasons 2&3, Twin Peaks, the new season of Game of Thrones when it comes out, and heck, maybe I’ll even finish Nashville (I sincerely doubt it).
THINKING ABOUT OKJA
I seriously really loved this movie and I can’t stop thinking about it. I think it’s one of my new favourites.
I recently moved out of home to Grafton and I am super super happy about it! I moved in with Zach and two of our friends and it has been really great so far. It’s a lovely villa with heaps of natural lighting and I’m really in love with it and can’t believe we got it. It’s also a 10 minute walk to work which is an added bonus! *This is why my post is a few days late.
CELEBRATING MY ANNIVERSARY
Recently I celebrated my first anniversary with Zach and he got me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. I cried and then we went and got hot dogs.
GOING FOR RUNS
This is a lie. I went for one run and I will probably never do it again because I threw up. I will go for leisurely walks instead.
I CAN’T STOP EATING:
BUTTER CHICKEN. STILL.
Legitimately, what the fuck is wrong with me.
ROAST PORK SANDWICHES
Guys, I think I’ve discovered how to make the best sandwich ever. You’ll need leftover roast pork (if you don’t have any, you can get it from most delis at supermarkets), mesclun salad mix (or any other salad mix of your choice, balsamic dressing, bread of your choice, parmesan slithers, and a toasted sandwich press.
I buttered both sides of two slices of bread and put both bits into the sandwich press to toast them. You can put the pork on one side of the bread and grill it if you want hot pork, which is what I did. Once that’s done, toss a handful of mesclun salad mix in a bowl with balsamic dressing before adding the salad to the sandwich. Top with parmesan slithers and close that bad baby up. It’s delicious.
ARMADILLO’S THAT SHAT THEMSELVES
If I was a contestant on Masterchef, this would be my signature dish. I obviously didn’t invent this myself, but it’s delicious and you should get on board if you have yet to. It’s just a toasted croissant filled with Nutella and it’s glorious.
Todd brought in a whole bag of tangelos to the greenroom and I ate so many and even got to take the rest home because they were left untouched.
NUTELLA ALMOND CREPES
I go to Torchon in Elliot Stables to get these and sometimes with banana. I don’t know what it is with me and Nutella at the moment but I am loving it so much.
I’VE BEEN USING
A FAKE CASIO DIGITAL WATCH
I got it for $3.50 at Daiso and it’s amazing. Even survived all that dishwashing.
AN EMPTY PASTA SAUCE CAN AS A VASE
I have too many flowers and nowhere to put them
A BLUNT UMBRELLA
The best umbrellas in the world. I got mine 3 years ago and it is still intact and keeping me dry. I love it.
I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO:
The Amelie Soundtrack
Whilst doing the food prep for Hudson & Halls, this was my go to. It’s such a nice vibe, especially whilst cooking.
Current faves include: La Isla Bonita – Madonna, Walk Like An Egyptian – The Bangles, Sussudio – Phil Collins, What Have You Done For Me Lately – Janet Jackson, and Don’t You Want Me – The Human League.
I love her. I love love love her. Nothing better in the whole world than listening to Horizon whilst having a bath.
